Wildlife Areas
Every school has the potential to create areas that are great for wildlife, and what’s more, great for you to use and explore with your class.
Many schools in Shropshire are already doing just that, but occasionally want a little outside help and inspiration.
If you want to start a wild area, but are overwhelmed by all the information and advice, then we can help point you and your school in the right direction. Get everyone involved in your initial discussions, and let us get you talking about what you want to create.
If you already have a wildlife area, but are frustrated by how overgrown and under used it’s becoming, then we can put you in touch with the right people and information to get things moving once more. We have been known to get our wellies on and clear out a pond or two as well!
We can carry out an audit of your grounds (called a “Green Space Audit”) to let you know about the amazing habitats you already have in your grounds, how to nurture them and create lesson plans that use the features you’ve all worked so hard to develop.
When is the best time to clear a pond? What poisonous plants are there in our grounds? How can I start a Forest School? We can help answer your queries on any wildlife topic and give you answers that are local and relevant to you.
The best way to contact us is electronically. We’re obviously out visiting schools a lot, but emails are checked regularly. Please leave us a comment or question on this site and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Please come back regularly for seasonal hints and tips on managing your grounds for wildlife. They’ll be posted up on our home page, then stored in our “Hints and Tips” category found on the right hand side of the page. Answers to many of your questions could well be stored here.
